I remember feeling different than the norm as a teenager. The year was 2002 and I was still in my home town of Misison Viejo, California. That’s me on the right side of the picture. I was a junior in high school and I had found my own personal in-group, the stoners, rejects, and social outcasts who spent their time arguing about which band best encompassed the late 90s industrial scene or discussing why the Downward Spiral was the perfect album. I remember semi-vividly through an alcohol induced haze going into the recording studio with Sleepwar for the first time. Our then drummer was attending the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences (CRAS) in Tempe, AZ and his friend and fellow student had set up a time to record our band. The whole situation was haphazard and thrown together and overall sloppy. I kept leaving the studio to take more than just a sip from my flask of whiskey and came back each time more and more distant from what was happening. The night ended and we all went home. No one was really surprised that the recording turned out to be garbage (they were all still learning at their school, after all), but we were all still disappointed. Read More
